The Land of Fallen Stars
A story commonly repeated to children while watching the night sky is the legend of the Stells, the lonely wanderers of the skies.
Up above the human world, there is an Overworld occupied by graceful creatures that stride across the blackness in long, fluid strides. But occasionally, one of these great creatures will fall from the sky, eventually landing upon the earth and becoming a Stell. It will unfold its long legs in this strange new place and set its eyes on the sky, where its beautiful home is. Then, it wanders. It searches the sky tirelessly, always moving, always looking for a way to regain its lost home. It is fascinated by the stars above it for each one of these marks a member of the Stell’s family, waiting just above its head for their lost one to return. The Stell will continue its journey until it finds a break between the worlds where it can return to its ancestral lands or it becomes too big for this world, crashes into the sky, and dies. Even if the Stell does not find its way home, it brings a piece of its home down to this earth for itself and for others who may appreciate the beauty of its ancestral lands. Wherever the Stell falls, it scores the land and melts into the earth, creating a beautiful pool of water which will forever reflect the stars and its home here on this earth.
